Orlando

When I was touring with Second City Chicago we stopped in Orlando and spent the day at Disney World. The whole troop went to Magic Kingdom and while everyone was busy buying Mickey Mouse ears, I decided I was going to go get a turkey leg. That’s the real reason I go to Disney. I was there with a big group of “stay together” people, though, and when they couldn’t find me, they freaked out and reported me missing to park security. I’m sitting there eating my turkey leg and all of a sudden I get swarmed by employees. Everyone was relieved they found me, and I thought, I was never lost. I am a full-grown man.

Turks and Caicos

My first real vacation was to Turks and Caicos. Once we landed, my friends and I immediately wanted to see the island and get a feel for the “real” South Caicos. We got what we paid for. Our tour guide basically had us running his errands. One of the stops was a local bar where he spent the whole time flirting with the bartender. He did take us fishing on his boat. I was feeling real confident because I grew up fishing and I kept claiming I’d catch all the fish in the sea. Instead, I ended up wrestling hard with a rock for about eight minutes.

Rome

My first time going out of the country was on a tour with Second City to Rome. I loved it so much I went back to Rome four times that year. What stuck out to me the most was the Black dance club I found. It was super dope. It was like dancing in a time capsule because they were blasting ’90s jams the whole night.

Vienna

I was on tour again in Europe a few years ago and our first stop was in Vienna. We performed at an English-speaking theater, but since English is the audience’s second language we had to pause and wait for them to interpret the jokes and then laugh. It was a crazy delay. And it certainly made it awkward when the joke didn’t work because you would sit there for an extra-long time in silence. My last stop on the tour was Budapest. The nightlife is incredible! One bar has four floors and every room has its own era-themed décor. I got lost in the club a couple of times and could have used that Disney search and rescue.
