Minneapolis is a pub town, but to get to the roots of the city's beer culture, visit a brewery taproom. Much pride is taken in locally crafted, Minnesota-specific beers, which are often limited releases that can be tasted only onsite.
La Doña Cervecería
Celebrating Latino and Minnesotan culture through craft beer and food, La Doña doubles as a brewery and community center, hosting a soccer league, salsa dancing, Spanish conversation club and other events in its expansive space. Beers range from classic light lagers to fruit-infused specialties.

Now a local staple, this brewery started in 2009 in a garage in South Minneapolis and quickly grew to become a behemoth. Cans of Fulton can be found all over town, but in the taproom, visitors can taste exclusive creations such as an alcohol-free hoppy sparkling water and brown ale aged in Jameson whiskey casks. The Airstream kitchen serves classic Midwestern fare to pair with the beers.

Sociable Cider Werks
Accessible to families and dogs, this taproom offers cards and board games, plus cold brew, kombucha and excellent gluten-free ciders. Saturday tours of the cidery are free with a canned-food donatation for the needy. Union Hmong Kitchen, an Airstream-based restaurant parked outside, is also worth a visit.

A taproom that's also a pizzeria? Sounds too good to be true, but Pryes perfectly pairs its signature dry-hopped IPA with breaded ravioli and build-your-own pizzas. Don't skip the spumoni ice cream or the approachable beers brewed in various classic styles.
